Birthday Congratulations

Post by drmoss_ca »

These forums default to showing a Birthday Congratulations at the bottom of the index page. I noticed during the night (another sleepless one) that it was saying Kirsten would have been 81 today. So I disabled it, as it seems a bit tasteless when we are mourning her, and since this is a situation that will arise many times in the future, I shall not re-enable it unless a lot of you want it back.

Your view makes sense to me. I don't see any real value in the B.D. feature.
CD38 71%, B2M 2.5, del 13q14.3 33%, unmutated [crap!], ZAP-70 pos, occasional bad hair day... Started R+CAL101 7/11/11, only CAL101 from 9/06/11 on. Switched to Ibrutinib 2/03/16, then switched to acalabrutinib 9/26/20.

I am glad you removed it because it also causes potential privacy problems.

There's certainly nothing wrong with wishing someone a happy birthday on the forum. But like Chris said, an automatic feature could potentially cause a tasteless public notification in the event someone is no longer with us.

Entering your birthday in your user control panel is optional, and the only other thing it lets the board do is to show your age in your profile to all and sundry. Only the congratulations function reveals your birthday, so it would take a dedicated identity thief to discover it that way! But by all means do not enter your birthday in your profile.
I just found the reminder that someone had passed on was unwelcome.
