Evidently Hurricane Lee is generally heading towards Maine and Nova Scotia to make landfall Saturday or Sunday.

Chris, if you're anywhere near the coast I imagine that y'all are giving this wide storm some attention! If you're inland there's probably not too much to worry about other than heavy weather.

I don't know if we have anyone in the upper New England coasts or not. But I imagine anyone in those general areas are taking precautions.

As of last year I moved to Amherst, on the border of NS and NB, right at the top of the Bay of Fundy. It's supposed to roll right over us, but will be a tropical cyclone rather than a hurricane. We will lose power for a day or two, but that will probably be all. There is a lot of low lying land in the isthmus, and one of these days a storm surge will cut off NS from NB. There's an unimpressive dyke with a railway line on top that protects the isthmus, and there is agitation to get it improved, but the federal government, which throws money at anything that might buy some votes, knows the Maritimes tend to vote Liberal anyway so they are in no hurry.

Ha! I know what you mean about government. IMO governments are simply very large criminal enterprises.

Yeah, since the storms rotate counterclockwise, by the time Lee drags over mainland Nova Scotia, that'll really take the punch out of it by the time it reaches Amherst. You may not even lose electricity. Hope not!

So far so good. Have cooked pots of food that can be eaten cold or reheated over a wood-fired rocket stove for the next two days. But currently I have power and am playing vinyl via tube amps as normal (yes, Tubular Bells II is as disappointing as ever!) The centre of the storm is yet to arrive, but the worst of the wind seems to have gone by.

I was just going to say that it looks like the hurricane will miss most of Nova Scotia until I noticed your post about where you live exactly! Ouch!!! Still might move a bit west of you, but good luck and hope you have everything battened down!!

6.20am and we didn't lose power! That was a surprise as we lose power for the slightest excuse here. If the builder ever comes back one of the proposed jobs was to install a generator to plug into out power panel. As long as we could run the heat pumps, freezer and well pump we could be comfortable.

Glad to hear that y'all didn't get nailed! Losing power is the thing I worry about most from storms. We live 3/4 mile north of the beach, so we don't have to worry about flooding, which is usually the most devastating part of a hurricane.

Hopefully the threat is over for NS for the year!
